Many foreigners are looking for a second home in Spain and the Costa Blanca properties are very popular amongst foreign investors. Many British, Germans, Belgian, Dutch, French and Russians have bought properties in this part of Spain in recent years, and more interesting opportunities keeps on popping up. This page is written for foreigners in Spain who are interested in Costa Blanca properties. Whether you actually end up living in Spain is a different story, depending on if the main idea is to make a property investment or a alternative house location investment. That mainly depends on their age. Of course the Costa Blanca is a great place to retire, but especially before 2008, when the crisis hit hard in Spain, the region was also a popular destination for young people seeking job opportunities in tourism or other industries.
About the Costa Blanca
Costa Blanca refers to 200 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline in the Alicante province of Spain. It extends from the town of Denia in the north to Pilar de la Horadada in the south, the southermost city in the Valencian community. Benidorm and Alicante cities are the major tourist centres.
Because the Costa Blanca is such a large area, covering the complete coastline of the Alicant province, it is necessary to point out the great difference between the northern Costa Blanca and the southern Costa Blanca. Basically Costa Blanca north is everything north of Alicante (from north to south: Denia – Xabia – Moraira – Calpe – Altea – Benidorm) and Costa blanca south is everything south of Alicante (from north to south: Alicante – Elche – Santa Pola – Torrevieja – Pilar de la Horadada). The Costa Blanca South has a very hot climate, and the terrain on the coast is very flat. The coastal towns centre around the beaches and there are many high rise apartment blocks. Elche is a nice city in this area, and let’s not forget the Isle of Tabarca just off the coast of Alicante.
In Costa Blanca North the terrain is different and there are more mountains and the land is not as dry and barren. Instead of large sandy beaches you can find cliffs and coves in Costa Blanca north. In the northern Costa Blanca towns spread further inland and in some places you can find villas built upon the hills overlooking the Mediterranean. Alicante is the biggest city on the Costa Blanca and it is very spanish so most expats move further south or north instead of moving to the city center of Alicante.
Costa Blanca properties with Blue Key
Without any doubt, the Costa Blanca North is prettier, but it is more expensive and further the airports. For example: Denia is 100km away from both Valencia airport and Alicante airport.
Some people say that you should buy a property in Costa Blanca South if you want to use it as a holiday home, and in the Costa Blanca North if you are actually thinking about moving to Spain full-time. At Globexs we understand this point of view. Everyone needs to ask the same question: What is the reason I want to buy something in Spain? The choice between moving to the Costa Blanca or buying a holiday home here is an important decision which will determine in what area you end up buying a property.
What are you looking for? An apartment or a villa? This of course depends in the first place on your budget. If you are looking for a nice expensive villa with pool and seaviews than you need to go to Costa Blanca North, which is more mountaneous, and offer this kind of properties. Benissa, Altea, and Denia would be good options.
Another important question is whether you want to rent out your property to tourists or not. Cities like Calpe and Benidorm are major tourist hubs and thousands of Belgians, Brits, French and Germans spend their holidays in this city.
